As the sun goes down and the humid air continues to loom, the thought of a clammy night’s sleep is enough to keep you up to do anything but hop into bed. When the British weather starts to top anything above 20 degrees in the evening, you can guarantee every home will have windows wide open and fans on full blast, swirling around mostly… hot air.
Even when you’ve organised your bedroom to one that’s relaxing and can ease your mind to sleep, a warm bedroom can deplete a lot of that effort. So, what’s the solution? A low tog-rated summer duvet is your partner in crime and you’ll be pleased to know there are plenty of affordable options on the market that can help to combat those humid, clammy months. Fancy watching our shortlist instead? Straight to our TL;DR summary by yours truly.
Tog (or Thermal Overall Grade) rating is the measurement of the weight of your duvet. More specifically, the lower or higher the tog rating indicates the fibres ability to trap warm air; that’s to say the higher the tog, the warmer the duvet. The lower the tog, the thinner the duvet is and the cooler it will be. Praise those scientists and product designers who figured all of this out.
When considering how to have a cooler sleep, it’s doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing situation. You can keep hold of having a softcover around you, and feel enough of a breeze during the warmer nights by switching to the tog rating of 2.5 – 4.5. A rating considered to be the all-rounder for duvets that are versatile enough to be carried through the seasons; winter included.
Duvets fillings fall into two main categories, natural or synthetic. Natural materials such as silk, cotton, and wool are known to be more thermoregulatory; they can keep your body warm if it’s cold out or can cool you down when it’s hot. Whereas synthetic materials tend to be made from microfibre or hollow fibre polyester resulting in a soft and lightweight feel that is perfect when seeking a more affordable alternative to natural fillings.
The Feels Like Down duvet has long been receiving raving reviews, at a rating of 4.9/5 stars from those who have bought it. The synthetic duvet is the perfect alternative for a non-feathered duvet that comes with the more luxurious feel of a down duvet. With a tog rating of 4.5, the Feels Like Down duvet will keep you at just the right temperature throughout the year for a peaceful night’s sleep.
